Community gardens wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for community minded people committed to a cause and prepared to put in the back breaking work to make good things happen. As good deeds often do, the positive energy from those efforts multiplies and spreads throughout the community building stronger social ties, facilitating goodwill, wellbeing and resilience.
In many cases it’s the substantial social value generated by the gardens and gardeners that is often the most impactful, but it’s also the hardest to measure. This project seeks to rectify that with the tools and supporting research that will enable a more evidenced based approach to measuring value in areas that are often more qualitative in nature.
You can explore our approach and the tools created to help develop and narrate stories of value on this site. Perhaps first look to the impact framework page where the various impact areas and measures are explored in some detail.
